This timeline can be affected by the use of a stain, how dark the stain is, and humidity levels. If you’re not using a stain and plan on applying 3 coats of polyurethane, you can complete the project in just 3 days, as long as the weather is dry and not humid. Just be sure to allow for 24 hours of drying time between each coat. It’s important to plan ahead and allow enough time for the project, especially if you’re using oil-based polyurethane. If you plan on using oil-based polyurethane, you should expect the process to take anywhere from 3 to 5 days.

WaterBased - Length Of Time

Some jobs may can be completed in just 1 day, but generally. allow for at least two days. Each coat of polyurethane needs an extra 2-4 hours to dry properly. After 48 hours, you can usually move your furniture back in without any problems.

Sanding - Length Of Time

They have the expertise and equipment to get the job done quickly and efficiently, often finishing 2-3 times faster than a novice. While it may come with an extra cost, it’s important to keep in mind the value of your time and what you can accomplish with those extra hours. You can expect a professional to sand the floor down to raw wood in approximately 1 -3 days. Depending on the size, species, and floors design.

Summary -Length To Refinish Hardwood Floors

It’s important to keep in mind that the time it takes to refinish your hardwood floors can vary depending on a number of factors. For example, the square footage of your space, the type of wood you have, and any necessary rip up or repair work can all impact the timeline.

When planning to refinish your floors, it’s important to keep in mind that the process typically takes 3 to 5 days, with additional drying time at the end. The timeline can vary depending on factors such as the type of stain used and the humidity levels. For example, darker stains take longer to dry and more humid conditions can prolong the drying time. If you’re doing a larger area, it can add a couple of extra days. You’ll also want to factor in prep work, such as removing carpet staples or repairing floors, as well as holidays and Sundays.

After the work is done, you’ll need to wait 24 hours before walking on it with socks only. At 48 hours, you can wear shoes and at 4 days you can put furniture back or lay down drop cloths for painting. You’ll also need to wait before letting dogs walk on the floor or adding area rugs.

If you choose to use water-based poly, the process can be quicker, taking 2 to 4 days, with shorter drying times. However, it’s still important to plan ahead and factor in potential delays such as weather or challenging floors such as pine, maple or factory finished floors.
