Stain Colours

Colour Specialist

Selecting the right stain for your decor in Alberta can be challenging. There is a wide range of colors and shades to choose from, ranging from dark to light. You can also mix the colors together to find a shade that’s just right for you. By looking at samples of the different shades, you can get a better idea of what your finished floor will look like. Countless colors range from light yellow to deep brown, allowing you to choose a subtle, natural look or something more vibrant and eye-catching. With the right stain, you can create the perfect look for your home or business.

Lighter floors are easier to maintain

When comparing light hardwood floors to dark hardwood floors, light hardwood floors have a significant advantage in that they show less dirt, scuffs, and marks. If you opt for a dark stain, it’s recommended to use a satin finish, as this type of finish shows fewer scratches, dents, and imperfections. Regardless of your color preference, a satin finish is considered more modern. When choosing the color of the hardwood floor, it’s important to take into account the furniture in the room and the amount of natural light coming in from the windows. Rooms with more natural light tend to experience faster fading, so it’s recommended to use UV-blocking windows along with UV-resistant finishes. Additionally, wood floors require regular maintenance such as recoating. Recoating involves applying a new layer of polyurethane, akin to applying a new coat of nail polish to your nails.

“Whether Light or Dark, which color shows less scratches?

All wood floors will scratch, but the way the floor is refinished will determine whether scratches are more or less noticeable. There are many factors that contribute to scratches, but generally speaking, surface scratches will be less noticeable on lighter floors. On dark floors, you can end up scratching through the dark stain, and since the wood underneath is light, the contrast will make the scratches more noticeable.”

“How do I fix a scratch? For a quick repair, you can purchase stain markers or touch-up colors. These can help make the scratches look a lot better. Depending on the severity of the scratches, you might end up needing to fully sand and refinish.”
